On her first mission trip….

So some of you may remember that the last time my hubby went on his annual mission trip to Haiti my sweet, innocent child did this. Enter anxiety and fear and a whole lot of grace and patience and here we are with my husband leaving again this Spring. But this time we are super excited for WonderGIRL to go with!!!!

Although I am worried for her anxiety levels in traveling to such a faraway and unknown place, I know that the lessons she will learn about servanthood, poverty throughout the world, and the Haitians undeniable gratitude for their humble lives will blow her away. She is about to be such a joyful and energetic addition to the team as they care for them medically – she gets to entertain the littles and hand out comfort and kindness. I can’t wait to hear and see the children flocking around her and to see the mutual blessings they will be in each others life paths.

If you would like to help support WonderGIRL, please know that prayers and encouragement is the heavy load of what we need for her. She also has a fundraising link if you’d like to support her financially. Every time we get to tell her there’s a new donation, the WG signature squeal-and-clap is in full effect so thank you to those of you who have already donated.

Hopefully Scott will get lots of pictures and video for me to share about her trip!

PS we like totally love Snapchat filters.

Wonder – part two

So apparently the only words I can muster/type have to do with this story and now movie and I’m okay with that for now….

….because the movie exceeded all of my expectations. Truly, I can’t wait to show every kiddo and maybe even every parent this movie to increase some empathy and compassion in this world that is severely lacking both.

If (when) you take your kiddos to see this movie, here are a few questions that may spark some conversation that may just surprise you.

1. Which character did you feel like was most like you? (Auggie – the target, Jack Will – bystander/friend that gives in to peer pressure, Via – sister jealous of sib with special needs, Julian – bully who has entitled and helicopter parents)

Important follow up: Why? (This is where the magic happens…..allow for silence…..and more silence……)

2. Which character showed the most bravery?

3. Is there someone like Auggie at your school right now? What can you do tomorrow to show them that they belong and are not alone?

4. Can you share a time that you were like Julian towards others? How do you think that affected the other person? Now that you know how it affected Auggie would you think differently before repeating that behavior?

Here is another blog post with suggested questions.

If for nothing else, this movie highlights both the struggles and joys of parenting a child that is outside of typical. Bring some tissues and ugly cry in front of your kids – it’s good for the soul and for them to see that all the emotions are meant to be felt and processed, not hidden.

Summer 2k17 in photos -July edition

Cousin fun at our house. WonderBOY has been blowing me away with his care and love in playing with younger kiddos lately. Love his heart. The whole volleyball crew arrived in Pullman – while the camp is awesome, I also love giving these high schoolers a chance to see other campuses around the state and start thinking about options post graduation. Sweet photo of WG at our camping trip to Deception Pass – our absolutely fave place to camp. Lake and ocean playtime plus camping in the trees – triple threat of awesomeness. When Mom suggests reading time around the campfire. A beautiful friend found her perfect match and it was a super fun reunion of old friends!!!!Enjoying a sunny day at the waterslides. This funny little cat loves to be held like a baby and often falls asleep just like this. The cuteness really makes up for when he’s a wild savage trying to eat us alive.

Up next in August – a little Silverwood action, Lynden fair and the start of volleyball season!!!!!

I didn’t forget!!!

…..well I kind of did. But then I remembered and now I feel guilty and now I am going to make up for lost time. Last year, I did a teeny tiny giveaway on my blog and asked for feedback on what you might want to read about in the future from my little bloggity blog.

Here were some of your answers (published here as a to-do list for me in the next couple of weeks!):
– family fitness
– traveling with kiddos
– how to create and maintain meaningful adult relationships
– building community in a new place
– growing/strengthening/surviving your marriage while raising kiddos
– balancing the side gig with the real gig and a family (and whether or not it’s worth it to do so…..the side gig part, not the family part of course)

Although I’m certainly not a master or expert in any of these areas, I would love to share if it might help even just one of you AND I also love starting some conversation around the topic for others to share as well. If there’s anything else that you might be interested in my take on, please feel free to leave a comment. If I run out of ideas, I might post even less than I do now!!!

(Oh and I  also flaked out big-time on getting one lovely blog reader her very lovely freebie – she’s lovely because she extends big time grace like winning something and then not nagging me about actually giving it away)

If you like exploring ideas around personal and family wellness, I share all sorts of different stuff on my rootedwell Instagram page. Feel free to explore!

And the winners are….

Kristina you are going to LOVE these (and if you’d rather have some rollerballs specifically for helping young kiddos I can make that happen instead!!!!). Jamie – little man must have known you would have NO time to read starting next week and need these books in your life. ?
Thanks to everyone for your comments – what great ideas for new posts!!!!
